The Social Engagement Scholarship Program is a scholarship lottery for teens 13-17 who actively participate in the Onslow County community. The program is intended to introduce participating youth to the social network that power the community in a way that helps them understand how their community works. By providing our youth insight into social issues/events present in their own community, we can help them determine where they are needed within their community and ways they can contribute. It also better prepares them for the realities of the world they will be entering as they transition toward adulthood. Ultimately, this program is intended to provide an aspect of education that is missing from conventional education and provides a step toward a school-to-leadership pipeline.
